I think it’s going to be one of those weeks. Try as I might, I just haven’t had any free time. It’s not helping that we’re at the beginnings of having the loft converted into an additional bedroom at home. Because we’re in a 1930s house, the ceilings are high, but the attic space is very weirdly shaped and consequently all of the bedroom ceilings on the floor below need to be lowered in order to give us more useable space on the floor above. You can imagine what it’s going to be like - dust everywhere! Complete mayhem.
So, rather than spending time with Meg and Josh, I’m clearing out wardrobes, recycling old clothing and chopping the tops off the fitted wardrobes. The latter is because the people we bought our home from loved to cut corners, so the wardrobes have an old brown carpet inside them, whereas the rest of the bedroom carpet is blue. As we can’t afford new wardrobes and new carpets in all of our bedrooms, we’re just decapitating the cupboards above the hanging space. It’ll do for a while and we’ll replace them when cash flow is a bit better.
It’s great because we really do need the extra space, but infuriating at the same time because this book is really niggling at me and the school holidays are the time when I get most done. Still, when it’s finished, my desk will have a view of York Minster - should get some lovely inspiration from that!
